I had the pleasure of getting home at 11pm last night and getting to wake up this morning at 6am to get to work by 8. Good times.

My friend, Robert, has turned me onto an interesting site. It's called Woot.com, and it's a sales site, of sorts, for generally digital equipment and toys. According to the site, they specialize in "selling cool stuff, cheap." They have an interesting slant on selling things, though.

They only sell one thing at a time. That's it - one thing, and it's on the front page of the site. The new item gets posted at 12am Central time, and it sells until 11:59pm, or until it's sold out. Once the item is sold out, they usually sell nothing until 12am the next day. It's an interesting business structure, and they generally offer some pretty cool things at really cheap prices. (Hey! Just like they promised!)

One thing they seem to have saved money on to afford to do business this way is Customer Service, but they freely admit it. On their FAQ page, see:
Will I receive customer support like I'm used to?
No. Well, not really. If you buy something you don't end up liking or you have what marketing people call "buyer's remorse," sell it on eBay. It's likely you'll make money doing this and save everyone a hassle. If the item doesn't work, find out what you're doing wrong. Yes, we know you think the item is bad, but it's probably your fault. Google your problem, or come back to that product discussion in our community and ask other people if they know. Try to call the manufacturer and ask if they know.
Still a good web site, especially if you get addicted to seeing what new item they'll be selling every day.

On a completely other topic, great day for the Dems yesterday. I was excited by the positive moves for the Democratic party, but will still feel better once George W. is officially out of office (and hopefully NOT replaced by another Republican OR another Bush). If you feel the same way I do, check out this site. You can buy some cool merchandise to let everyone know how anxiously you await our Commander in Chief's last day in office. There's t-shirts, stickers, buttons, etc.

The song for today is "All You Zombies" by the Hooters. Laughable, right? Who would call their band the "Hooters." But these guys had an interesting sound, and a few hit singles like "And We Danced" and "Day By Day," but the first song I heard from them was "Zombies," a dark tune with a biblical theme that was like nothing I had ever heard before. I had this album long before the band went mainstream, and I saw them open up for Brian Adams back in the day.

I didn't realize until I started to write this post that the Hooters are still around! Check out their current web page here. Wow, they didn't age well! The band said that a "hooter" was this instrument type thing that looked like a keyboard that you blew into. When I saw them live, they did a great version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" on hooters and mandolins.
