We just finished a big project at work, so yesterday slowed down early in the day. I felt like I was getting a cold, so I went home "early" at 5pm. Which put me directly into two straight hours of traffic to get home. I'm glad that worked out for me. Around the hour and fifteen minute mark, you get really pissed that you're still stuck in traffic. By the hour and a half mark, you've calmed down a bit and are now questioning the life decisions you've made that have gotten you to a place where it takes that long just to get home. As you near two hours, all you know is you really need to take a leak.

At least I got home early enough to relax on the couch with my dog and catch up on some Tivo. Most notably, I watched The Office and Heroes. The Office needs it's own separate blog entry - I'll have to tackle later the subject "Why the Office is so damn good."

"Save the Cheerleader, save the world..."

For now, take my advice when I tell you if you haven't yet tuned into the new show Heroes, you are really missing a great adventure. It's been a long time since I've seen a show as fresh as this one, that keeps me coming back eagerly week after week. If you haven't seen it, it's about a group of people, located in different places all over the world, who are slowly realizing that they each have their own superpower. One can not be killed, one can fly, one can read minds...it's very intriguing.

For me, the cool thing about this ongoing story is that it's comic book-like, but not super geeky. It's about normal, everyday people who have somehow attained these incredible powers, and how they deal with the knowledge of what they are capable of. My favorite character is the Japanese Hiro, who has control over the space/time continuum. Who wouldn't want THAT special talent? Again, if you haven't seen it, you should set your Tivo. It's on NBC Monday nights at 9pm.

The song for today is "I Got You" by Split Enz. As far as I can tell, the song was released in 1980 on the album "True Colors." The weird thing about me for this song is that I had heard it hundreds of times in the 80s, but never knew who did it, and didn't actually find out until about five years ago. Even odder still is that I didn't know until (seriously) a few months ago that Split Enz was made up of the notorious Finn brothers who went on to Crowded House fame. Knowing that, I should actually check out the whole album since I've enjoyed pretty much everything the Finns have ever done.
